Nepal has its own currency called Nepali rupees. The currency code is Nrs, and most of the common paper notes are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1000. You may come across the paper notes of 1, 2, and 25 sometimes, but it's rare. There are also coins of 1, 2, and 5 Nrs.
Most of the hotels in famous tourist cities accept cash in different major currencies. You can exchange money at Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival, banks, and money exchange centers in Thamel. Similarly, you can also use a Credit Card to pay bills.
Banking & Foreign Exchange
ATMs are available through the cities. Most of the ATMs accept international cards issued by significant banking networks. You can withdraw a maximum of Nrs 30,000 at the time and have to do multiple withdrawals to withdraw more than that.
You can use cards like MasterCard, Visa, JCB, American Express, etc, to make payments in hotels, cafes, airlines, restaurants, and major merchants. You may be charged a transit fee for processing the card. So talk to your bank or card provider once and get to know about all the charges your cards may see while using in Nepal.
