Today, you will land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Upon landing, complete the visa process and meet with our representative. He will take you to the hotel. Later in the late evening, you will get to meet other team members over a welcome dinner organized by the company.

After breakfast, you will join the tour guide and visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will be exploring some famous tourist sites like Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and the Monkey Temple. In the evening, meet with the trek guide and prepare for the trek.

An early morning scenic flight will take you to Pokhara. From here, you will drive to Nayapul and begin trekking towards Ulleri. Trekking through lush forests, you will reach Birethanti and cross a bridge over Modi Khola. The trail goes through the ACAP check post and further moves along the Burundi Khola. Gradually ascend along a dirt road to Hille and reach Tikhedhunga. You will cross two suspension bridges and follow a steep uphill route to Ulleri.

The day begins early, and you will continue trekking along with terraced fields. The route further goes through dense forests of oak and rhododendron. On the way, you can see stunning views of the Annapurna range and the Dhaulagiri range. Pass by Bangthanti village and cross a small stream to further ascend to Nangathanti. The trail from here climbs to the beautiful Ghorepani village.

Today, you will wake up early in the morning to catch the gorgeous sunrise from Poon Hill. You will also get to see breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains like Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Nilgiri, Gangapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, etc. Later, descend to Ghorepani and continue trekking towards Tadapni through lush forests.

You will trek towards another famous village today. The trail goes through dense forests and offers superb scenery along the way. From Tadapani, you will descend through small settlement areas to Ghandruk village. Ghandruk village is mostly resided by Gurung and Magars.

Have a warm breakfast and begin trekking towards Kimche. Today is the last day of the trek. From Kimche, you will drive back to Pokhara. The evening is free to relax and explore the bustling Lakeside Market.

It is an extra day in Kathmandu. You can go on a guided sightseeing tour or explore on your own. Visit Davi's Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, Bat Cave, and the International Mountain Museum. You can also do activities like paragliding and mountain cycling if you want.

The flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu offers wonderful mountain views and landscapes. Upon landing in Kathmandu, we will drop you at the hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day as per your wish. In the evening, there will be a small farewell dinner and get-together organized by the company.

How difficult is Poon Hill Trek?

Poonhill trekking is one of the easiest treks in the Himalayas. It is a perfect trek for beginners to introduce themselves to the Himalayan trail. You do not need to do any specific training before the beginning of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek.

To reach the starting point of the trek, Nayaoul, you have to drive 45 km from Pokhara. Then the Poon Hill Trek with Ghandruk has a total distance of around 53.8 km.

Even though Poon Hill Trek is considered easy, do not forget the long trekking hours and numerous ascents & descents throughout the trek. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek route goes through dense forests, mountain villages, and involves several steep, rocky sections too.

Moreover, you will be trekking in a remote area. The facilities will be less than in the city. You have to spend the night in the lodge that offers limited services. In short, you need to be mentally prepared before hitting the trail.

Altitude Sickness

The chances of altitude sickness are very low during the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 10 Days. The maximum altitude you will touch during the trek is approximately 3,210 meters. The gradual pace of the trek and low altitude makes Poon Hill Trekking overall safe from altitude sickness.

Still, different bodies may react differently even at a low altitude. So, don't down your guard and take the below precautions:

  • Eat a balanced diet and include plenty of fluid in the meals.
  • Drink at least 2 liters of water every day.
  • Alcoholic drinks and smoke can dehydrate your body, so do not consume them.
  • Get some prescribed medications for headaches, body pain, cold, etc.
  • Do not trek more than 500 meters a day. Always climb high and sleep low.
  • If you see symptoms like breathing problems, headache, loss of appetite, restlessness, etc inform your team members.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Permit

You will need a TIMS Card and ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) permit to go on Poon Hill and Ghorepani Trek. Both permits are issued at Kathmandu, Tourism Board office, as well as in Pokhara.

Best Season to do Poon Hill Trek

March to April and October to November is the perfect time of the year to go on the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. Weather plays a huge role to make the venture fun and pleasant or full of obstacles. Therefore, selecting the right time to trek in the Himalayas is crucial.

Spring and autumn make the Poonhill Trekking fantastic, with a clear sky and stunning mountain views. Likewise, the climate remains moderate (18°C to 5°C) with stable weather in these two seasons. The rhododendron bloomed trail makes trekking in spring heavenly. Likewise, you can also go on Poon Hill Trek in early winter to enjoy snowfall and winter trekking.

Accommodation & Food

You will stay overnight in a nice, comfortable lodge during the Poon Hill Trek. The rooms come with an attached washroom and twin beds usually. If you want a single room, then do let us know at the time of booking. The services in the lodge are basic. You may have to pay a few extra bucks for services like hot showers, WiFi, etc.

All the meals during the trek are provided as per the menu of the lodge. As it is relatively a low and famous trekking route, the food options are quite extensive. Dishes like dal bhat, curries, steak, chapati, fried dishes, sandwich, burger, pizza, pasta, noodles, momo, thukpa, thenduk, porridge, soup, bakery items, etc are available on the menu.

  • Q1. How long is the Poon Hill trek?

    We offer a 10 days Poon Hill trek (includes your arrival and departure for Nepal). If you are already in Kathmandu or Pokhara, it will take 2 to 4 days to trek to Poon Hill.

  • From Pokhara, it takes two days to reach Poon Hill. On the first day, you will drive to Nayapul and ascend to Ulleri. And the next day, the trail takes you to Ghorepani village. Poon Hill is located above Ghorepani village.

  • Ghorepani is located at 2,840 meters, whereas Ghandruk is situated at 1,900 meters.

  • No, you can not drive up to Poon Hill. From Pokhara, you can drive to Nayapul and trek to Poon Hill.

  • Yes, it snows in Poon Hill and along the trail. The snowfall may not be that heavy but can make the trail slippery.

  • From Kathmandu, you have to drive to Pokhara (around 7 hours of drive) and take another 1-2 hour drive to Nayapul, the beginning point of the trek. From here, you have to trek for a couple of days to reach Ghorepani village and ascend to Poon Hill (3,210 m).

  • You will get WiFi service in many lodges along the trekking route. However, there is no ATM lounge along the trail to withdraw cash. Therefore, make sure to get some cash in the city to use during the trek.

  • Yes, you will get electricity to charge your mobile and camera during Poon Hill trekking. Usually, lodges have separate charging booths where trekkers can charge their electronic devices. Some places may charge you a few extra bucks to let you charge your device. Carry spare batteries or a solar charger.
